Girls Night Out in South Pasadena

If you’re looking for something new to do… I have an idea for you! Speaking as a mom, business owner, and habitual school volunteer, I must express the importance of an escape from the ordinary…A Girls Night Out. This is a rare opportunity that must be planned. A time to bond with friends, old and new. Last week I was lucky enough to get away, on a Sunday evening for a few extraordinary hours. The plan, to experience “Inside Private Lives” produced by Kristin Stone at The Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena. It had received great reviews and is currently playing Sundays at 7:00pm.

Myself and two girl friends live in NE Pasadena so we decided we would park at the Sierra Madre Villa Gold Line station and take the train to South Pasadena. We did not want to drive and the 12-15 minute advertised train ride, actually seemed much shorter. We felt very metro as we walked to have dinner at Mike and Anne’s on Mission. If you have not been there, I recommend you give it a try. Whether you’re hungry for a large meal, or appetizers and great libations you will not be disappointed. May I suggest the strawberry/lemonade concoction that Abigail mixes behind the bar. Magnific!

We ate dinner from 5:30-6:30pm and then were ready to catch the show. I had heard it was an interactive performance but I did not know precisely how interactive. Let me say we were in the first row and had a wonderful time. In “Inside Private Lives”  6 prominent controversial characters come out on stage separately and speak directly with the audience. You have the opportunity to ask questions of the character and truly lose yourself in a piece of time. You may enjoy the history of the character and want to try to throw the actor a curve ball with a pointed question or maybe you just fancy yourself as an amateur actor in the making. None the less, it will make you laugh. The characters are fabulous with their improv responses which fit so well with the character they play. Some of my favorite personalities of the evening were David Koresh, King Edward and John Dillinger.  They have 16-20 different characters so every show is different Sunday to Sunday.

After congratulating the cast on a fine show, we walked back to Mike and Anne’s to wind down before taking the train home. An ideal diversion for the end of the week. It is just one of the many special things you will find in South Pasadena. Just a short train ride away….
