I moved into my house 01-16-03. The sidewalk was a mess with black top in place to make cement even so no one would take a tumble. The tree in the parkway had broken a sprinkler pipe witch I replaced after moving in. Now when moving out and getting the city inspection I'm handed a $500.00 bill to fix the sidewalk. If this is the case I think I should be able to construct a TOLL gate and maybe charge a couple of pennies each and every time someone uses the walk! Then if they have 1,2 or three dogs a penny apiece would be about right, as a couple times a week I'm cleaning Pasadena's parkway of Doggy Doo! Oh well they say this has been in affect since 2006, but I sure don't remember anything listed about it.

If you have a problem with lifted sidewalks, check out the web site www.safesidewalks.com. We currently have 25 operations nationwide. We have done work for over 500 municipalities to date and we specailize in removing the liability for a fraction of the cost of replacement.

I have seen the sidewalk repairs consit of some blacktop poured across the crack to level the sidewalk. I believe one day, someone will bring a court challenge to this. It would be interesting to see the results. I don't have much respect for this department as my article indicates.

I'm currently buying a property in Pasadena and since the bank owns it, we are footing the $650 bill for the sidewalk. We can't tell what work has been done, or if they are saying work needs to be done in the future. It made us seriously consider NOT buying in the city as this was SO intrusive. In these times, Pasadena should not be looking to add to the difficulty of purchasing a home. It does nothing but push the property values down and diminish their property taxes. Very short-sighted.

Wow. Sounds like an interesting ordinance. I am not sure I like the "Big Brother" aspect.
Aloha,
